With the legalization of cannabidiol (CBD), a compound derived from the cannabis or hemp plants, it became possible for the researchers to conduct research and studies using it. As CBD is found to have a large number of pharmaceutical benefits, the researchers are trying to explore its properties. However, most of the studies are still in their infancy, and authentic studies in this field are very limited. Therefore, a lot of properties and the effects of CBD are yet to be revealed.
Researchers are on the quest to find out how CBD interacts with different organs in the human body. Some studies indicate that it can have a positive impact on the brain, heart, and some other important organs. But the effect of CBD on some other organs such as the liver is still remaining as a puzzle. Different studies conducted in this field show contradictory results. Therefore, it became difficult for the researchers to come to a conclusion about the relation between CBD and liver.
Some studies suggest that CBD can have a positive impact on the liver, while some others indicate that CBD can damage this organ. Therefore, through this article, we analyze how CBD can impact the liver and its functioning.
CBD And Liver
The studies in the medical field for finding the impact of CBD on the liver are limited. However, researchers from the University of Arkansas conducted a study for finding the effects created by different doses of CBD on a group of mice that are 8 weeks old. This study investigated the impact created by CBD on liver. Through this study, it is found that the mice tolerated the CBD greatly. But when given a higher dose of CBD, a human equivalent of 200 milligrams, they showed signs of liver toxicity.
Even though such high doses is not applicable to most real-life situations, it can be a clear indication of the effects caused by the overdosing of CBD.
In addition to this, administering repeated doses of CBD in lower quantities, a human equivalent of almost 50 milligrams, also resulted in liver swelling and damage.
Don’t Worry Too Much
The experts in this field suggest that CBD users do not have to worry yet, as the dose of CBD used in this study is very high. However, more studies are needed in this respect for knowing the effects created by CBD on the liver.
Researchers are also trying to understand about CBD and drug interactions, as this compound is found to interact with certain drugs resulting in liver toxicity. Therefore, it is better for you to avoid taking higher doses of CBD, as it can result in side effects.
